What are backlinks?

Backlinks (also known as "inbound links", "inbound links" or "one-way links") are links from one website to a page on another website. Google and other major search engines regard backlinks as 'voting' for a specific page. Pages with a high number of backlinks usually have high organic rankings for search engines.

Why are backlinks important?

Backlinks are actually votes from other websites. Each of these votes signals to search engines: "This content is valuable, credible and useful."

So the more of these "votes" you have, the higher your website will score in Google and other search engines.

Although Google has since made thousands of changes to its algorithm, backlinks remain an important ranking signal.

Google has confirmed that backlinks remain one of their three most important factors for search engine ranking.

Which types of backlinks are valuable?

Not all backlinks are created equal.

In other words:

A single quality backlink can be more powerful than 10,000 low-quality backlinks.

It appears that high-quality backlinks often have the same characteristics.

Quality Backlinks Come From Trusted, Authoritative Websites

This concept is known as "Domain Authority". In essence, the more authority a site has, the more authority it can pass on to your site (via a link). If backlinks come from an authority site, Google places a lot of weight on them.

Quality Backlinks Include your target keyword in the link anchor text

Anchor text is the visible text part of a link. In general, you want your links to include anchor text that contains your target keyword.

A recent study even found a link between anchor text with keyword-rich and higher rankings for that keyword.

Quality Backlinks come from Topically Related Sites

When a website links to another website, Google wants to see that the two sites are related to each other.

This makes sense if you think about it:

Imagine that you have just published an article about landscaping design.

In this case, Google will attach much more weight to links about sites about landscaping design, outdoor design, hardscaping than sites about eating, traveling, and health care.

The Quality Backlinks are “Dofollow” Links

Nofollow links do not count search engine ranking algorithms.

Fortunately, the majority of links on the web are "do follow" links.

And most links with the nofollow tag are not that valuable, to begin with. For example, links from these sources usually no longer apply:

Blog comments
press releases
Paid advertisements

These links are not very useful for SEO anyway, so it doesn't matter that they don't follow.

Backlinks for Unique Sites

Quality backlinks link comes from a domain that has not been linked to you before.

Suppose you get a link from Website A. Let's say Website A links to you again. And again. And again.  Are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th links just as powerful as the first? No.

It is usually better to get 100 links from 100 different websites than 1,000 links from the same website.

In fact, our search engine ranking showed that the number of sites that link to you (not the total number of backlinks) correlated more with Google rankings than any other factor.

How to Build Quality Backlinks:

1 # Create Link Worthy Pages/Contents

If you want people to link to your website, you need something on your site that is worth linking to.

A Link Worthy Pages can be a blog post, a video, a piece of software, a quiz, a survey ... basically, everything that people want to link to.

In most cases, your linkable business asset will be an amazing piece of content that's why search engine optimization and content marketing are so closely linked.

2 # Reverse Engineer The backlinks of your competitor

Every branch has its own set of link building options.

So I recommend taking some time to reverse engineer your competition. That way you can find linking options that only exist in your niche.

How about an example?

Suppose you manage a fitness blog.

And one of your competitors is Well Fitness.

If you check their backlinks with a backlink checker like Ubersuggest, you will find many sites where you can build backlinks easily.

2 # Broken link building

Now you can email the owner of the site and ask for a link. But I have noticed that begging does not work so well.

Instead, let the site owner know which broken links you encounter.

You can easily find broken links on every page. Just use the handy Check My Links Chrome extension.

This program quickly finds all broken links that the page has. It also marks them in red so that they are easy to find:

The last thing you need to do is send the site owner an email about their dead link.

Then send an email like below:

Hello [name of site owner],

I just flipped around on your resource page today and there were some broken links between the lists of great resources.

Here are a few:

[URL 1]
[URL 2]
[URL 3]

I have a website, [Your website], which also regularly publishes quality content that is related to your niche. If you think so, you can place a link to it on your source page.

Anyway, I hope this helps and keep it up!

thanks,
[Your name]

3 # Guest Posting in Quality Websites in Your Industry

When you write amazing guest posts for quality websites in your industry, those links help.

4 # Backlinks through Infographics and other visual assets submission

Infographics are still an effective link building strategy.

When we looked at the types of content that generated the most links, infographics came at the top.

Like every piece of content that you publish, you must strategically promote your infographic.

5 # Submit testimonials

Large and small companies like to show customer testimonials.

And you use a product or service that you like (or at least like), consider sending them a testimony.

To show that you are a real person, they often add a link to your website ... without you having to ask.

6 # Blogger reviews

If you have a piece of software, a physical product, consulting service or EVERYTHING or value that you sell, you can easily change that to dozens of high-quality backlinks.

How?

By offering your product to bloggers for free.

Find bloggers in your niche who may be interested in what you have to offer. If you are selling an information product that teaches people how to make a hardy craft, you would Google things like "make hardy craft", "make a hardy craft at home" etc.

Your results are a mixed bag of blogs, news websites and 'how' websites such as eHow. Filter out how-to sites or news sites. You are left with a solid list of bloggers who may be interested in your offer.

# Get Backlinks Through HARO

HARO (abbreviation for Help a Reporter Out) is one of the best ways to get high authority backlinks from news sites.

This is how HARO works:
  • Register here at HARO as a source.
  • You receive three emails per day
  • Respond with your login details and some useful tips.
  • You give a reporter a customized answer and they will connect you with a backlink.

That's all there is to it.
